Soundport

Soundport

Soundports are very effective for increasing the dynamic range of the instrument for the player. Lower frequencies tend to travel more efficiently through air than higher frequencies so the further the sound has to travel the more bass-heavy it becomes. The soundport acts as a monitor and directs the sound toward the player's ear. This allows them to hear a much broader spectrum when playing thereby enhancing the player's experience. The soundport improves the dynamic range for the player but does not affect the volume or tone from a distance. This feature is also beneficial as the cavity resonance changes with the size of the port so it is possible to fine tune the sound of the instrument while it is being constructed.
